From I Heart Radio:

"Interpol is set to release their new album El Pintor on September 9th, but the band is also giving fans a taste of their new music with an exclusive show at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City on Friday, September 5th, as part of iHeartRadio Live.

The band is set to perform songs from their brand new album, including their single "All The Rage Back Home," during their intimate iHeartRadio Live show. Fans definitely won't want to miss the band performing their new music live!

El Pintor is the band's fifth studio album and their first one since 2010. The album was produced by Interpol, with Daniel Kessler playing guitar and piano, Samuel Fogarino on drums, and Paul Banks on vocals, guitars, and taking over bass duties for the first time.

Fun fact, the album's title El Pintor is also an anagram for Interpol!

The best part is that no Interpol fan will miss out on the band's exclusive iHeartRadio Live show. Fans can tune in to a live stream on Clear Channel Alt and AAA radio station websites, as well as on iHeartRadio.com at 7 p.m. ET on September 5th.

Don't miss all the rage!"

Interpol's El Pintor, the full-length followup to 2010's Interpol,  is out September 9 on Matador. Earlier this week, they shared their new track "Ancient Ways". Today, they announced a release show for the record at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. It takes place September 2 at the museum's Temple of Dendur (in the Sackler Wing), an ancient Egyptian structure that dates back to the reign of Augustus Caesar.

Interpol's Second Act: Inside the Gloom Kings' Return

New interview at Rolling Stone. Some highlights:

"No one was blindsided when Carlos left," says Banks. "Marriages end, you know? It's a miracle that we did more than two records."
Banks hasn't stayed in touch with Dengler, but he says there's no bad blood between them. Sam Fogarino, Interpol's longtime drummer, is less diplomatic. "Carlos had very narcissistic tendencies," Fogarino says over the phone a few days later. "It got to the point where he was dismissive of the notion of a rock band. All of a sudden, he had no respect for something that we still love. That's kind of hard to swallow."

Paul: "As the Lord above has ordained it, everyone is now upon my dick!"

Adds Banks, "It was like, 'Wow, fuck, there's new creative DNA here, and the molecule is sustaining.' We're new beasts now, and we're thriving."
This thought leads him off on a tangent about Splice, the 2009 sci-fi film starring Adrien Brody: "Ever seen that? Crazy movie, man – they make an alien, then he bangs it. Sorry – spoiler. But I would compare this album to that."
Kessler laughs and shakes his head. "If that doesn't sell," says the guitarist, "I don't know what will."

Rolling Stone interview with Paul

Very nice, and funny, interview with Paul at Rolling Stone.

Going back to your solo work: is Julian Plenti done? Is he ever going to come back?
Well I did put out an EP called Julian Plenti Lives to sort of answer that.

And I read on a forum that you may be retiring the name.
Yeah, I think I will.  But when I say that the solo stuff existed before Interpol, I was supposed to be Julian Plenti in Interpol. That was my artist name when we were putting together Bright Lights.
We had a band meeting where I said, "OK, I'm going to be Julian Plenti," and they said, "Dude, we're all being ourselves, so why don't you drop the fucking weird name and just use your real name?" So I said, "All right, I'll use Julian Plenti for my solo work, and I'll be Paul Banks for the band."

I think it's hilarious that the band called you out on it.
Yeah, I know. And then Carlos fucking became Carlos D, and it was like, "Well, shouldn't you be Carlos Dengler if I'm fucking Paul Banks?" Whatever.

:)

Interpol To Spend "A Lot Of 2015" In The UK

Listen to Daniel's interview with XFM last night.

"Speaking to XFM's Danielle Perry about the record, first single All The Rage Back Home and touring plans, guitarist Daniel Kessler admitted they do intend spend "a lot" of time here once El Pintor has been released.

"I think a lot of 2015 will be spent in the UK and so forth, he said. "We always enjoy playing shows in the UK.

"We did the March shows, the NME shows, and that was really tremendous to be back and get such a warm responsive welcome from everyone. Obviously Glastonbury and the recent London show we did were really special for us so I'm really looking forward to it. It's been really, truly a pleasure to be doing this run right now so, we're having a good time."

Interview from Exclaim

From Exclaim:

Interpol Discuss "Immediate and Confident" New Record, Possibility of 'Antics' Reissue
By Matt Bobkin

Critically acclaimed New York post-punk revivalists Interpol recently announced their fifth LP, El Pintor, which isn't due until September 8 on Matador. While the group have yet to reveal any of the studio recordings, they have played the album's first three tracks, "All the Rage Back Home," "My Desire" and "Anywhere," at recent shows.

Speaking to Exclaim!, guitarist Daniel Kessler explains that "All the Rage Back Home" is "probably the first single." Drummer Sam Fogarino goes on to describe the track as "kind of a power-pop song but it still has that Interpol angst. Just when you think it's too happy and too content, I keep falling down half the time." Featuring an abrupt tempo shift that lurches the track forward, the song sets a tone for the record that Fogarino describes as "immediate and confident, without being dismissive."

Another track that Fogarino discusses in great detail is "My Blue Supreme." According to the drummer, "I kinda fell into this Bowie-influence — Station to Station, Scary Monsters and even Let's Dance. [It's] really dancey but kind of angular at the same time, and I think without anyone else knowing that they kind of fell into that too, and I didn't want to say anything, because you don't want to put like a spell on it."

El Pintor is the first LP recorded without longtime bassist Carlos Dengler, who departed after the completion of 2010's self-titled record. The position, filled in the studio by vocalist Paul Banks, was a welcome change for the group.

"With no disparaging to Carlos, he really stopped caring about playing bass a long time ago and Paul was the opposite. He really felt that he didn't want to just fill somebody's void, he wanted to make it just as good and then better," remarks Fogarino.

Kessler also admits that Banks picking up the four-string was a last-minute decision. "We had no idea he was gonna play bass, we didn't know how that was going to go. Truthfully, we didn't really have a plan beforehand at all."

This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the band's second record, Antics. While they released a commemorative deluxe edition of their debut, Turn on the Bright Lights, upon its 10th anniversary two years ago, Kessler says that, if there is a deluxe reissue on the horizon, it's probably not coming out this year.

"Maybe we'll try to do something at some point along this campaign, it'd be nice. I spent a lot of damn time putting that whole [deluxe Turn on the Bright Lights reissue] together, and that took me forever but it was great. It'd be nice to do something for Antics as well, maybe we'll find the time while we're out there."

And as to El Pintor, both bandmates are confident that the record is one of the band's finest. Says Kessler, "We're excited to share this record, I'm super jazzed. I'm a little hesitant to say too much because it's our fifth record. I know I've said it before, this feels like our best record, but you should always feel this way about your body of work, and I do feel pretty jazzed about it and I can't wait for people to hear it."

Interpol play Splendour pre-party on July 24th

From The Music:

"If you can’t attend this year’s epic Splendour In The Grass festival – and even if you can, but your thirst for revelry still yearns to be quenched – then you’ll be stoked to know the festival is throwing its official pre-party on Thursday, July 24, at Byron Bay’s The Northern.

Any run-of-the-mill pre-party would be excellent on its own, but Splendour isn’t your run-of-the-mill festival, and so the three-day camping event is taking things up a notch by bringing along line-up stars such as NYC-bred post-punk icons Interpol, Baltimore movers and shakers Future Islands, Lisbon-based six-piece techno/hip hop/dance fusion outfit Buraka Som Sistema, rising buzz band DMA’s, and Adelaide rapper Tkay Maidza, as well as showcasing DJ sets from Art Vs Science and Fishing.

Understandably, ticket availability will be strictly limited once they go on sale via The Northern from 9am on Thursday, June 26. Create/Control, Secret Sounds and Dew Process mail-out subscribers will have the first stab at tickets, from 9am the day before. Entry will set you back $65 plus a booking fee.

Behind the scenes of the making of 'El Pintor'

New album, 'El Pintor', out Sept. 9th!

According to a fan who spoke to Sam after last night's show, the new album is scheduled for release on Sept. 9th, 2014.

Update: Now confirmed! The new album is called 'El Pintor', Spanish for The Painter, and an anagram of Interpol.

From Matador: "On September 9, we’ll be releasing INTERPOL’s first new album in 4 years, ‘El Pintor’ on LP, compact disc and all digital formats. . Recorded at Electric Lady Studios and Atomic Sound in New York City with engineer James Brown, the band’s fifth album – taut and epic in equal measure – finds Interpol recharged, and ready to reclaim their mantle as one of the planet’s best. ‘El Pintor’’s songs (track listing below) were written and produced by Interpol, with Daniel Kessler playing guitar & piano, Samuel Fogarino on drums, and Paul Banks on vocals, guitars, and taking over bass duties for the first time. The album also features contributions from The Secret Machines’ Brandon Curtis (keyboards), Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. (Beck, Air) playing keyboards on “Tidal Wave,” and Rob Moose (Bon Iver) playing violin and viola on “Twice as Hard.” ‘El Pintor’ was mixed by Alan Moulder at Assault and Battery Studios, and mastered by Greg Calbi.

'El Pintor’ track listing :
1. All the Rage Back Home
2. My Desire
3. Anywhere
4. Same Town, New Story
5. My Blue Supreme
6. Everything is Wrong
7. Breaker 1
8. Ancient Ways
9. Tidal Wave
10. Twice as Hard
11. The Depths (bonus track)

Interpol will be touring all summer, with festival performances including Governors Ball (this weekend), Lollapalooza, FYF Fest, Austin City Limits Festival, Glastonbury, and Roskilde already confirmed. They’ll be back on the road this fall with more dates to be announced soon.
