Carlos D was sorely missed at the Austin show. The new bassist is sloppy and inarticulate, has too bright a sound, often got off tempo, and simply does not seem to understand either the "groove" or the "spirit" of the songs he has been entrusted to play. Consequently, the band had some rhythmically poor moments--"Hands Away" and "Rest My Chemistry" among them. Moreover, the loss of Carlos's iconic stage presence just cannot be overstated. He was central to what defined Interpol, visually and sonically. After seeing them perform live every tour from 2002 forward, I honestly believe--sadly--they're done. It's time to say goodbye...
I will be there! Are you going Craig?
ReplyDeleteYes! My 3rd (out of 5) show in a row. : )
ReplyDeleteAny after parties for the Austin show?
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of any.
ReplyDeleteWow Craig. You've caught a few. Think this was my 10th Interpol show. I think I've seen them more than I've seen The Cure. Hope you had a great time!
